The Hotel Chelsea was once infamously home to many celebrities, from Leonard Bernstein to Andy Warhol, from Patti Smith to Janis Joplin. It was most of the time, a murky place to be. There were deaths from overdose and rat and roach infestations aplenty. But during its heyday, it was also home to many artistic collaborations, songs and stories…

If it were possible to completely rethink the Hotel Chelsea, would you even? Can you erase the memories of a place that has them completely ingrained into its’ walls? Or do you honor them while also giving the place a new life?
GOALS

CHECK-IN AREA: Keep it loungey; the HOTEL CHELSEA was a home
LOUNGE/BAR area featuring projections of previous HOTE CHELSEA residents with their music playing over speakers

RESTAURANT AREA for easy meetings and collaboration over meals
HOTEL ROOMS AND HALLWAYS: Reverse use: meetings take place looking out onto streets with beautiful lighting; Rooms look into hotel to keep sense of community and source for inspriation

VARIOUS ROOM TYPES:
Smaller rooms with balconies that open into indoor court for sense of community
Suites decorated with wallpaper and featuring space to create music and art
